The White Plum lineage begins with the legendary buddhas from before the first historical buddha, Shakyamuni. From there it goes through the Indian ancestors to Bodhidharma, who brought the lineage to China. Then the Chinese ancestors begin with Dazu Huike. Dogen Zengi begins the Japanese ancestors, and they continue to Maezumi Roshi (Baisan Hakujun). The American lineage begins with Bernie Glassman (Baisen Tetsugen).
